Author Biography

Peter J. Stanlis, a native of New Jersey, took his B.A. at Middlebury College (1942), his M.A. at the Bread Loaf School of English (1944), and his Ph.D. at the University of Michigan (1951). He has taught in various American colleges and universities for over forty years, and has been a guest lecturer in four European universities. He has published over 100 articles on political, historical, legal, educational, and literary subjects, and has edited a law journal. His publications on Burke include 26 articles and he edited The Burke Newsletter and Studies in Burke and His Time for 13 years. He has published or edited 7 books on various aspects of Burke's thought and politics. His best known book, Edmund Burke and the Natural Law revolutionized modern scholarship on Burke.
