It's never too late for a miracle.

Now with a new afterword! A five star-reviewed, unforgettable story that bestselling author Homer Hickam calls "one of the most eloquent, moving, irresistible true stories" he's ever read. The Waiting will touch your heart and make you believe in love's enduring legacy, as well as the power of prayer.

In 1928, 16-year-old Minka was on a picnic in the woods when she was assaulted and raped. And suddenly this innocent farm girl--who still thought the stork brought babies--was pregnant. The story that follows has been almost a hundred years in the making. After a lifetime of separation, Minka whispered an impossible prayer for the first time: Lord, I'd like to see Betty Jane before I die. What happened next was a miracle. Written by Cathy LaGrow (Minka's granddaughter), The Waiting brings three generations of this most unusual family together over the course of a century in a story of faith that triumphs, forgiveness that sets us free, and love that never forgets. (As seen on The Today Show.)

This moving true story will:

  • Capture your heart as it details the sorrow and restoration of a mother and daughter
  • Inspire you to keep praying
  • Leave you in awe over the redemption only God can bring

Prepare to have your heart touched as you experience this remarkable story of hope and answered prayer.

Author Biography

Cathy LaGrow first fell in love with books as a young girl, when she often chose to lose herself in a story rather than play outside. That love has never waned. Her previous writing endeavors include her blog, Windows and Paper Walls, which she launched in July 2010; a story for Chicken Soup for the Soul titled "A Good Mother"; and a weekly column for All the Church Ladies on a website created by journalist Karen Spears Zacharias.

Cathy is married to her high school sweetheart, Dan. They live in Portland, Oregon, with their two boys. This is Cathy's debut book.

In 2006, Cathy and her family learned the secret her grandmother Minka Disbrow had been carrying for almost eighty years, as two families were reunited. Cathy began writing the story in early 2012.

Cindy Coloma is a bestselling author who has published numerous nonfiction books and twelve novels, including Beautiful (2010 Christy Award finalist and 2011 Revolve Tour Young Adult featured book), Song of the Brokenhearted (with coauthor Sheila Walsh; 2013 ECPA bestseller), The Salt Garden (one of Library Journal's Best Books 2004), Orchid House (2008 ECPA bestseller), and Winter Passing (2001 Christy Award finalist). She has collaborated and ghostwritten with high-profile media personalities, political figures, and international singers/speakers.

Cindy lives with her husband and five children in Redding, California, where she is "family famous" for her chocolate chip cookies.
